Human microglial cells as a therapeutic target in a neurodevelopmental disease model
Mesci and colleagues studied the role of human microglia during neurodevelopment, revealing that, MECP2, the causative gene for Rett syndrome, was implicated in microglial functions including phagocytosis and that microglia are implicated in synapse formation. ADH-503, a CD11b, agonist restored phagocytosis and synapse defects and increased survival in vivo. Human microglia can be a promising therapeutic target for neurodevelopmental disorders.
